Mission

Common Good City Farm is an urban farm in Washington, DC, where community members source fresh food, see sustainable urban agriculture in action, and learn healthy skills. Our mission is to sustain and support a more equitable community through growing, learning, cooking, and sharing fresh food together. Our two-fold approach combats food insecurity and increases the short and long-term health and wellness of our community: meeting immediate needs by putting food on tables and addressing systemic injustices with free education and events. We serve Wards 1 and 5 and the residents of LeDroit Park, which has been deeply divided by gentrification. Common Good focuses on low-income students, teens, elderly, and residents with disabilities. Since 2008, our farm has been a place where all members of our community can come to eat, learn, and play in ways that contribute to health, community, and environmental sustainability.

Activities or mission (Part I)

Our mission is to sustain and support a more equitable community through growing, learning, cooking, and sharing fresh food together. Our purpose is to work with our neighbors in nurturing a sustainable community space grounded in food justice, education, and connection.

  • Common Good City Farm is a place where community members can source fresh food, see sustainable urban agriculture in action, and gain exposure to concepts and skills to lead healthy lives. Common Good City Farm actively engages all members of our diverse community and creates opportunities for connection, contributing to the vibrancy and sense of place in our community. In 2024 we produced over 4500 pounds of produce. We support social services and community health and hunger through our Pay-What-You- Can Farm Stand, ensuring that all visitors can walk away with fresh fruits and vegetables regardless of their ability to pay. We serve 300+ families per year, and in 2024 Common Good provided over $15,000 in discounts to customers unable to afford full price, and distributed a total of $38,000 of produce and farm market products. We serve over 120 youth each year in our out of school time program on the farm, offered 4 days each week and serve 25 teens with a daily program for 6 weeks in the summer.

Compensation is as filed in Part VII: reportable pay from this organization and from related organizations, other compensation, and hours per week. The total, marked calculated, is our sum of the three dollar columns, with a blank column counted as $0; the form itself has no total. On a Form 990-EZ the columns are Part IV's instead, and on a Form 990-PF Part VIII's — compensation, contributions to benefit plans, and expense account — and the total sums those. Earlier years are each on their own filing page.

Nonprofiteer parses Forms 990, 990-EZ and 990-PF, in a window of recent tax years. These returns are recorded from the IRS e-file index, so their figures were extracted by that index rather than read from the return here — treat them as a different source from the filings above, not as more of the same record. A dash means the index carries no figure; Form 990-T listings carry none at all. Showing the 10 most recent; the API carries the rest.

Grants made

No itemized grants to organizations. Schedule I is filed only by organizations that granted more than $5,000 to a recipient, so most filers have none.

Auto-Revocation List

Not listed. The IRS publishes this list for organizations whose exemption was automatically revoked for failing to file for three consecutive years.

Publication 78

Listed as of 13 October 2026, under deductibility PC.

These are two separate IRS files on two separate schedules, shown as published and not reconciled with each other. Neither is a statement about whether a contribution is deductible today: 19,245 organizations appear in Publication 78 while the IRS's own revocation file lists them as currently revoked, more than half of those revoked before 2019. Absence from Publication 78 is evidence of nothing, and presence is not evidence either. Verify current status with the IRS before relying on it.
