DEVELOPMENT OF THE CLINICAL PRACTICE GUIDELINES PROJECT:THE DEVELOPMENT PROCESS FOR THE CLINICAL PRACTICE GUIDELINES WAS THE FOLLOW-UP TO APPA'S PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE GUIDELINES, WHICH WAS A MULTI-PHASED EFFORT DESIGNED TO INTEGRATE SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH WITH CLINICAL INSIGHTS. IT BEGAN WITH AN EXTENSIVE REVIEW OF CURRENT LITERATURE AND EMERGING DATA IN PSYCHEDELIC-ASSISTED THERAPIES, LAYING AN EVIDENCE-BASED FOUNDATION. NEXT, A PANEL OF EXPERTSINCLUDING SEASONED CLINICIANS, RESEARCHERS, AND ETHICAL ADVISORSCAME TOGETHER TO IDENTIFY CRITICAL PRACTICE AREAS AND DRAFT PRELIMINARY RECOMMENDATIONS. THROUGH A SERIES OF ITERATIVE WORKSHOPPING AND CONSULTATIONS, FEEDBACK WAS COLLECTED AND INCORPORATED, ENSURING THAT THE GUIDELINES WERE COMPREHENSIVE AND RESPONSIVE TO REAL-WORLD CHALLENGES. FOLLOWING THESE EFFORTS, THERE WAS AN INITIATIVE TO ASSEMBLE A DEDICATED WORKING GROUP TO DEVELOP CLINICAL PRACTICE GUIDELINESSTRUCTURED, EVIDENCE-BASED RECOMMENDATIONS INTENDED TO HELP CLINICIANS DELIVER CONSISTENT AND EFFECTIVE CARE, BUT THIS ENDEAVOR WAS HALTED WHEN THE ORGANIZATION HAD TO CONCLUDE ITS OPERATIONS.

MEMBER ACQUISITION AND OPERATIONAL MANAGEMENT: ANOTHER CRITICAL PORTION OF APPA'S MANDATE WAS TO CREATE AND SUSTAIN A MEMBERSHIP OF PSYCHEDELIC PRACTITIONERS WORKING WITH LEGAL SUBSTANCES, AS WELL AS DEVELOP A PIPELINE FOR THOSE WHO WERE STUDYING TO BE ABLE TO PRACTICE WITH PSYCHEDELIC SUBSTANCES ONCE THE COMPOUNDS HAD RECEIVED FDA APPROVAL. APPA DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS AND EDUCATION TO WORK CLOSELY WITH THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR TO FURTHER DEVELOP THE MEMBERSHIP, INCLUDING PRODUCING REGULAR DIGITAL EDUCATIONAL CONTENT, LIVE EVENTS FOR NETWORKING, AND DEVELOPING AND MANAGING THE ONLINE PLATFORM FOR PRACTITIONERS TO BE CONNECTED. UNFORTUNATELY, WHEN APPA IMPLEMENTED A MONTHLY FEE BUSINESS LINE FOR MEMBERS, THE ORGANIZATION WAS UNABLE TO PRODUCE ENOUGH FINANCIAL SUPPORT FROM ITS MEMBERS TO SUPPORT THE ONGOING BUSINESS OF THE ORGANIZATION. DUE TO LACK OF FUNDING AVAILABILITY IN THE PSYCHEDELIC PHILANTHROPIC ENVIRONMENT, THE ORGANIZATION WAS FORCED TO CLOSE ITS DOORS IN AUGUST OF 2024 WITH FINAL LIQUIDATION EFFECTIVE DECEMBER 2024.

EDUCATING LAWMAKERS AND POLICY MAKERS ABOUT PSYCHEDELICS, AND OFFERING PRACTITIONER EXPERTISE: ONE WAY THAT APPA SOUGHT TO ACHIEVE ITS GOAL OF CREATING A WORLD WHERE PSYCHEDELICS ARE SAFELY INTEGRATED INTO THE AMERICAN MEDICAL SYSTEM WAS BY EDUCATING LAWMAKERS AND POLICY MAKERS IN WASHINGTON DC., COLORADO, OREGON, AND CALIFORNIA. IN ORDER TO ACCOMPLISH THIS, A ROLE FOR THE DIRECTOR OF COMMUNICATIONS AND POLICY WAS ESTABLISHED TO WORK CLOSELY WITH THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, AND INTERNALLY HIRED. THIS PERSON WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR WORKING WITH A CONTRACT PR FIRM (AT A DISCOUNTED RATE) TO ESTABLISH THOUGHTFUL AND EDUCATIONAL NARRATIVES IN THE PRESS, SOCIAL MEDIA, AND BEYOND, AS WELL AS WORKING CLOSELY WITH MEMBERS OF CONGRESS AND STATE LEGISLATURES WHEN THEY REQUESTED INFORMATION AND EDUCATION. THIS PERSON WAS A MEMBER OF THE COLORADO AND OREGON WORKING GROUPS TO ESTABLISH PRACTICES AND GUIDELINES FOR THE LAWMAKING PROCESSES THERE.

Compensation is as filed in Part VII: reportable pay from this organization and from related organizations, other compensation, and hours per week. The total, marked calculated, is our sum of the three dollar columns, with a blank column counted as $0; the form itself has no total. On a Form 990-EZ the columns are Part IV's instead, and on a Form 990-PF Part VIII's — compensation, contributions to benefit plans, and expense account — and the total sums those. Earlier years are each on their own filing page.

Auto-Revocation List
Not listed. The IRS publishes this list for organizations whose exemption was automatically revoked for failing to file for three consecutive years.
Publication 78
Not present in the most recent drop.
These are two separate IRS files on two separate schedules, shown as published and not reconciled with each other. Neither is a statement about whether a contribution is deductible today: 19,245 organizations appear in Publication 78 while the IRS's own revocation file lists them as currently revoked, more than half of those revoked before 2019. Absence from Publication 78 is evidence of nothing, and presence is not evidence either. Verify current status with the IRS before relying on it.
