Mission

With an accomplished team of caring and dedicated Montessori educators, our mission is guiding preschool-6th grade students to academic achievement, forstering a love of learning, building character, and instilling the importance of contributing to the community.

  • Providing education in a safe and nuturing environment for children preschool to 6th grade using the Montessori method of learning. Our vision is to sustain a diverse, mindful and authentic Montessori Educational community. We help children become self-motivated, independent individuals who respect themselves and the world in which we live. We have three Childrens House preschool classrooms increasing our current enrollment capacity to 60 students. Our Elementary program serves up to 14 children from grades 1-6. Approximately 90% of our elementary students receive scholarship assistance from the State of North Carolina through either ESA Grant or the Opportunity Scholarship programs. When possible, we provide financial aid to our Childrens House students when a family needs assistance. Our goal is to be able to participate in the countys child care subsidy program in the next year to help support families with a greater financial need.

  • In September of 2024, Hurricane Helene brought catastrophic levels of flooding to the WNC region. BMTMs school building flooded from water runoff from the road and around the building. Once we were able to assess the damage, we learned that 6,000 square feet of flooring would need to removed and replaced. This included 6,000 sq ft of asbestos tile that was underneath the floor in the building. The process was lengthy and required the school to be closed for 8 weeks. The school was able to offer reduced programming out of a local church for 3 weeks once the Town of Black Mountain restored access to water. Volunteers helped us move classrooms, clean up after the storm, empty rooms that required restoration, track down supplies and drinking water, restore the playground after storm damages, move back into the building and clean after restoration was complete. In the aftermath of the storm, we learned that we can count on our parent and local community members to help.

Compensation is as filed in Part VII: reportable pay from this organization and from related organizations, other compensation, and hours per week. The total, marked calculated, is our sum of the three dollar columns, with a blank column counted as $0; the form itself has no total. On a Form 990-EZ the columns are Part IV's instead, and on a Form 990-PF Part VIII's — compensation, contributions to benefit plans, and expense account — and the total sums those. Earlier years are each on their own filing page.

Nonprofiteer parses Forms 990, 990-EZ and 990-PF, in a window of recent tax years. These returns are recorded from the IRS e-file index, so their figures were extracted by that index rather than read from the return here — treat them as a different source from the filings above, not as more of the same record. A dash means the index carries no figure; Form 990-T listings carry none at all. Showing the 10 most recent; the API carries the rest.

Grants made

No itemized grants to organizations. Schedule I is filed only by organizations that granted more than $5,000 to a recipient, so most filers have none.

Auto-Revocation List

Not listed. The IRS publishes this list for organizations whose exemption was automatically revoked for failing to file for three consecutive years.

Publication 78

Listed as of 13 October 2026, under deductibility PC.

These are two separate IRS files on two separate schedules, shown as published and not reconciled with each other. Neither is a statement about whether a contribution is deductible today: 19,245 organizations appear in Publication 78 while the IRS's own revocation file lists them as currently revoked, more than half of those revoked before 2019. Absence from Publication 78 is evidence of nothing, and presence is not evidence either. Verify current status with the IRS before relying on it.
