Mission

Ministering with dental care to those in need by stewarding God's gifts of time, talent and treasure.

  • With the closure of the Charleston Naval Shipyard in the 90's, a group of concerned individuals established the first charity dental clinic in the North Area. This was located in a small building in what was once a thriving neighborhood, but one which had fallen on hard times due the loss of jobs relating to the base closure. For over 20 years a group of dedicated volunteers operated this facility on a limited basis treating individuals who had dental pain, but lacked money to afford care in a private office. The new North Charleston Dental Outreach is the culmination of a vision to address an increasing need for care among the poor in our community. Many years of planning and fundraising led to the opening of a modern, 6 treatment-room clinic in the Fall of 2022. This new facility is now open more hours each week, offering preventive and restorative services in addition to extractions. Dozens of MUSC dental and Trident Tech hygiene students are mentored each month as they render care under the supervision of our dedicated faculty. 2025 AccomplishmentsOur clinic serves over 1,500 patients and 120 children from the greater Charleston region and beyond - 97% without dental insurance. In 2025, we served patients from over 20 plus countries of origin providing charity dental services to individuals without dental coverage. We expanded our services to serve pediatric patients in partnership with the Charleston County School district. We continue to provide other specialty services including endodontics and some prosthodontic care. We aim to be the premier dental partner in Charleston and have established multiple partnerships with other nonprofit organizations in the region that serve our underserved populations. We began offering emergency walk-in clinics twice per week to immediately relieve individuals in pain.

Compensation is as filed in Part VII: reportable pay from this organization and from related organizations, other compensation, and hours per week. The total, marked calculated, is our sum of the three dollar columns, with a blank column counted as $0; the form itself has no total. On a Form 990-EZ the columns are Part IV's instead, and on a Form 990-PF Part VIII's — compensation, contributions to benefit plans, and expense account — and the total sums those. Earlier years are each on their own filing page.

Nonprofiteer parses Forms 990, 990-EZ and 990-PF, in a window of recent tax years. These returns are recorded from the IRS e-file index, so their figures were extracted by that index rather than read from the return here — treat them as a different source from the filings above, not as more of the same record. A dash means the index carries no figure; Form 990-T listings carry none at all.

Auto-Revocation List

  • Exemption revoked 15 May 2013, reinstated 15 February 2016.

Publication 78

Listed as of 13 October 2026, under deductibility PC.

These are two separate IRS files on two separate schedules, shown as published and not reconciled with each other. Neither is a statement about whether a contribution is deductible today: 19,245 organizations appear in Publication 78 while the IRS's own revocation file lists them as currently revoked, more than half of those revoked before 2019. Absence from Publication 78 is evidence of nothing, and presence is not evidence either. Verify current status with the IRS before relying on it.
