Mission and programs · 2024

Primary exempt purpose

The primary objectives and purpose of the Hartford Dance Collective (The Dance Collective) is to provide performance opportunities in dance for female choreographers and to share professional contemporary dance with new audiences by curating performances in diverse locations. The Dance Collective will strive for excellence in providing: 1. Educational opportunities within the community (including public performances and open classes); 2. Performance and cultural training opportunities for dancers; and 3. Leadership opportunities for female choreographers to prepare them for a career in the dance field. These objectives and purposes are deliberately expressed in very general terms, so that they may provide useful and relevant guidance in the broadest possible range of circumstances

  • One thousand audience members gathered for the fourth annual Hartford Dance Festival, featuring 25 diverse professional dance performance groups, an all-styles dance battle, and three free dance workshops on the Bushnell Park Stage in Hartford, CT.

    Expenses $17,810 · Grants $12,000

  • The Art Bridges Foundation awarded the Hartford Dance Collective in collaboration with the New Britain Museum of American Art a grant to ignite the temporary exhibit "Modern Women: Visionary Artists". The activities included free dance class on Saturday mornings for 6 months, 5 pop-up style dance performances immersed in the galleries at the museum, and two final full-length dance performances featuring five brand new choreographies, created based on works from the exhibit.

    Expenses $18,220 · Grants $18,220

Compensation is as filed in Part VII: reportable pay from this organization and from related organizations, other compensation, and hours per week. The total, marked calculated, is our sum of the three dollar columns, with a blank column counted as $0; the form itself has no total. On a Form 990-EZ the columns are Part IV's instead, and on a Form 990-PF Part VIII's — compensation, contributions to benefit plans, and expense account — and the total sums those. Earlier years are each on their own filing page.

Grants made

No itemized grants to organizations. Schedule I is filed only by organizations that granted more than $5,000 to a recipient, so most filers have none.

Auto-Revocation List

Not listed. The IRS publishes this list for organizations whose exemption was automatically revoked for failing to file for three consecutive years.

Publication 78

Listed as of 13 October 2026, under deductibility PC.

These are two separate IRS files on two separate schedules, shown as published and not reconciled with each other. Neither is a statement about whether a contribution is deductible today: 19,245 organizations appear in Publication 78 while the IRS's own revocation file lists them as currently revoked, more than half of those revoked before 2019. Absence from Publication 78 is evidence of nothing, and presence is not evidence either. Verify current status with the IRS before relying on it.
