Mission

THE CURRENT NEEDS OF WASHINGTON'S LAND AND FARMERS CALL FOR A NEW STRATEGY TO CREATE A SUSTAINABLE, EQUITABLE, AND RESILIENT FUTURE. AT WASHINGTON FARMLAND TRUST, WE AIM TO: PERMANENTLY PROTECT WHAT IS LEFT OF OUR MOST VALUABLE AGRICULTURAL LANDS. REDUCE BARRIERS TO LAND ACCESS AND CREATE LAND AFFORDABILITY FOR A NEW GENERATION OF FARMERS. PROMOTE CLIMATE RESILIENCE IN LAND CONSERVATION AND STEWARDSHIP.

Activities or mission (Part I)

WASHINGTON FARMLAND TRUST PROTECTS AND STEWARDS THREATENED FARMLAND ACROSS THE STATE. WE KEEP LAND IN PRODUCTION BY MAKING IT ACCESSIBLE TO A NEW GENERATION OF FARMERS.

  • CONSERVATION: EVERY DAY, WE WORK TO PROTECT ONE OF OUR MOST VALUABLE NATURAL RESOURCES: FARMLAND. WE PROTECT FARMLAND FOREVER BY WORKING WITH LANDOWNERS TO REMOVE THEIR FARM'S DEVELOPMENT POTENTIAL, OR BY PURCHASING AT-RISK FARMLAND WITH THE GOAL OF LEASING OR SELLING IT TO A LOCAL FARMER. CONSERVATION MAKES FARMLAND MORE AFFORDABLE AND HELPSKEEP IT PRODUCTIVE INTO THE FUTURE.

    Expenses $659,174

  • FARM TO FARMER: FARM TO FARMER IS A PROGRAM OF WASHINGTON FARMLAND TRUST THAT AIMS TO HELP FARMERS FIND LAND, BUILD CAPACITY, ACCESS RESOURCES, AND ULTIMATELY, THRIVE AS BUSINESS OWNERS AND STEWARDS OF THE LAND. WE OFFER PERSONALIZED SUPPORT TO CURRENT AND ASPIRING FARMERS, FARMING COLLECTIVES AND COOPERATIVES, FARM ORGANIZATIONS, AND FARMLAND OWNERS IN WASHINGTON. WE WORK WITH PROGRAM PARTICIPANTS TO CO-CREATE PLANS THAT ADVANCE THEIR FARM BUSINESS AND FARMLAND STEWARDSHIP GOALS, AND PARTNER WITH SERVICE PROVIDERS SUCH AS LAWYERS, REALTORS, FINANCIAL INSTITUTIONS, AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT ORGANIZATIONS TO PROVIDE DIRECT SUPPORT TO OUR PARTICIPANTS.

    Expenses $440,267

  • STEWARDSHIP: WASHINGTON FARMLAND TRUST'S STEWARDSHIP PROGRAM DIRECTLY SUPPORTS THE HEALTH OF OUR CONSERVED FARMS, BECAUSE WE KNOW THAT SIMPLY PROTECTING FARMLAND FROM FUTURE DEVELOPMENT IS NOT ENOUGH TO ENSURE IT REMAINS VIABLE AND PRODUCTIVE INTO THE FUTURE. AFTER ALL, HEALTHY FARMS INVEST IN OUR SOIL, WATER, AND HABITAT CREATING RESILIENCE IN THE FACE OF A CHANGING CLIMATE. PRODUCTIVE FARMLAND FEEDS COMMUNITIES, BUILDS ECONOMIES, AND PROVIDES A LIVELIHOOD FOR FARMERS. THE CORE TENANT OF OUR STEWARDSHIP PROGRAM IS TO ENSURE THAT THE NATURAL RESOURCES ON OUR CONSERVED FARMS ARE PROTECTED, TO KEEP THE LAND IN FARMING FOREVER. IN ORDER TO ENSURE THE LAND WE PROTECT THRIVES INTO THE FUTURE, WE SUPPORT FARMERS IN THEIR EFFORTS TO IMPROVE WATER QUALITY, WILDLIFE HABITAT, AND SOIL HEALTH ON THEIR FARMS. (CONTINUED ON SCHEDULE O)WE PROVIDE A VARIETY OF RESOURCES AND ASSISTANCE, RANGING FROM VOLUNTEER RESTORATION AND CONNECTIONS WITH TECHNICAL ADVISERS TO OUR MICRO-GRANT PROGRAM, ADVANCING FARM SUSTAINABILITY. WITH EACH OF THESE EFFORTS, WE RELY ON LOCAL CONSERVATION DISTRICTS, COST-SHARE PROGRAMS, AND OTHER PARTNERSHIPS TO IMPLEMENT OUR SHARED GOALS OF SUSTAINABLE LAND MANAGEMENT.

    Expenses $426,815 · Grants $3,522 · Revenue $103,174

  • COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT PROGRAM: THROUGH THE TRUST'S COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT PROGRAM, WE PROVIDE COMMUNITY MEMBERS WITH AN OPPORTUNITY TO LEARN ABOUT OUR CAUSE FIRST HAND - EITHER ON THE FARM OR CLOSER TO HOME. WE HOST EVENTS SO THAT ATTENDEES CAN DIG INTO LOCAL FARMING ISSUES AND CREATE OPPORTUNITIES TO GIVE BACK THROUGH VOLUNTEERING. WE ALSO SHOW UP AT PARTNER EVENTS IN THE COMMUNITIES WHERE WE WORK TO BUILD RELATIONSHIPS AND LOCAL CONNECTIONS.

    Expenses $326,775

Compensation is as filed in Part VII: reportable pay from this organization and from related organizations, other compensation, and hours per week. The total, marked calculated, is our sum of the three dollar columns, with a blank column counted as $0; the form itself has no total. On a Form 990-EZ the columns are Part IV's instead, and on a Form 990-PF Part VIII's — compensation, contributions to benefit plans, and expense account — and the total sums those. A Schedule J breakdown is as filed: base pay, bonus, other, deferred compensation and nontaxable benefits from this organization, with any from related organizations beside each, and the filer's own total. It is shown with the Part VII listing of the same name on the same return. The form gives no key between the two, so that pairing is ours, and is marked matched by us. Earlier years are each on their own filing page.

Nonprofiteer parses Forms 990, 990-EZ and 990-PF, in a window of recent tax years. These returns are recorded from the IRS e-file index, so their figures were extracted by that index rather than read from the return here — treat them as a different source from the filings above, not as more of the same record. A dash means the index carries no figure; Form 990-T listings carry none at all. Showing the 10 most recent; the API carries the rest.

Grants made

No itemized grants to organizations. Schedule I is filed only by organizations that granted more than $5,000 to a recipient, so most filers have none.

Grants received

The 10 largest by cash amount. The API serves every itemized grant.

Taxable family

From Schedule R Parts I, III and IV: entities that legally are the filer, and taxable partnerships, corporations and trusts it is related to. These record ownership and control, not shared board members or money.

Auto-Revocation List

Not listed. The IRS publishes this list for organizations whose exemption was automatically revoked for failing to file for three consecutive years.

Publication 78

Listed as of 13 October 2026, under deductibility PC.

These are two separate IRS files on two separate schedules, shown as published and not reconciled with each other. Neither is a statement about whether a contribution is deductible today: 19,245 organizations appear in Publication 78 while the IRS's own revocation file lists them as currently revoked, more than half of those revoked before 2019. Absence from Publication 78 is evidence of nothing, and presence is not evidence either. Verify current status with the IRS before relying on it.
