Mission and programs · 2024
Primary exempt purpose
To provide educational curricula and programs to build inclusive community through innovative music and cultural arts.
-
Music Curricula: The organization assists in building a comprehensive K-8 Jewish music program, working directly with schools to tailor programs to meet the specific needs of students and teachers. The curriculum is designed to foster a love for Jewish music and culture, emphasizing the connection between heart and music. Students develop their unique voice and expression through music. In 2024, music curricula were licensed for 12 schools in the Bay Area in 10 different organizations. They reached 130 educators and 1,500 students and parents in 40 classrooms. This year, we focused on flagship music curricula called Cousins Like Us, a musical storybook and family engagement program for preschool and school-aged children and families.
Expenses $40,002
-
Workshops: The organization offers a variety of educational and musical workshops for all age groups. These workshops are a firsthand experience of the use of music for community building, using Music by Heart's values, and are tailored for schools, congregations, summer camps, universities, and community organizations. These workshops provide an opportunity for participants to learn about the power of music in fostering connections and teamwork, and to gain insights into the philosophy. They are designed to be engaging, interactive, and fun for all participants. In 2024, the organization presented 20 workshops.

Our organization has worked with a variety of schools and we are well-versed in the challenges that schools may face. Some schools may already have established music programs that they wish to enhance, while others may be looking to build or completely re-envision a new music education program from scratch. We are dedicated to helping you with your specific needs by providing a range of services for you to choose from. Whether you need help with curriculum development, program assessment, teacher training, or any other aspect of your music program, we are here to help you achieve your goals.

Compensation is as filed in Part VII: reportable pay from this organization and from related organizations, other compensation, and hours per week. The total, marked calculated, is our sum of the three dollar columns, with a blank column counted as $0; the form itself has no total. On a Form 990-EZ the columns are Part IV's instead, and on a Form 990-PF Part VIII's — compensation, contributions to benefit plans, and expense account — and the total sums those. Earlier years are each on their own filing page.

Auto-Revocation List
Not listed. The IRS publishes this list for organizations whose exemption was automatically revoked for failing to file for three consecutive years.
Publication 78
Listed as of 13 October 2026, under deductibility PC.
These are two separate IRS files on two separate schedules, shown as published and not reconciled with each other. Neither is a statement about whether a contribution is deductible today: 19,245 organizations appear in Publication 78 while the IRS's own revocation file lists them as currently revoked, more than half of those revoked before 2019. Absence from Publication 78 is evidence of nothing, and presence is not evidence either. Verify current status with the IRS before relying on it.
