Mission and programs · 2024
Mission
To use the arts to create empathy in order to raise awareness and funding for Usher Syndrome to ultimately find a cure.
-
In 2024 Usher Syndrome Society launched the award winning Every Second Counts campaign, which included taking over nine Times Square billboards, airing a national TV commercial, and securing digital displays on taxi tops, bus stops, and major media platforms to raise awareness for Usher syndrome. The campaign generated 145,849,932 impressions, leading to a 984% increase in direct website traffic, a 558% rise in website users, and a 118% growth in our donor base. We also educated the public by hosting three storytelling events featuring film screenings, showcasing our Shine a Light Portraits in 5 rotating exhibits. This momentum enabled us to launch PUSH, a groundbreaking research program, accelerating treatment for all types of Usher syndrome, and award $265,000 in Translational Research Grants to advance critical global research efforts.

Compensation is as filed in Part VII: reportable pay from this organization and from related organizations, other compensation, and hours per week. The total, marked calculated, is our sum of the three dollar columns, with a blank column counted as $0; the form itself has no total. On a Form 990-EZ the columns are Part IV's instead, and on a Form 990-PF Part VIII's — compensation, contributions to benefit plans, and expense account — and the total sums those.
