Mission

SEEKING TO PUT GOD'S LOVE INTO ACTION, HABITAT FOR HUMANITY BRINGS PEOPLE TOGETHER TO BUILD HOMES, COMMUNITIES AND HOPE TO REALIZE OUR VISION OF A WORLD WHERE EVERYONE HAS A DECENT PLACE TO LIVE. BLUE RIDGE HABITAT FOR HUMANITY ADHERES TO A STRICT NON-PROSELYTIZING POLICY AND WILL NOT BASE AN OFFER OF ASSISTANCE ON THE EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED CONDITION THAT PEOPLE ADHERE TO OR CONVERT TO A PARTICULAR FAITH OR LISTEN AND RESPOND TO MESSAGING DESIGNED TO INDUCE CONVERSION TO A PARTICULAR FAITH.

  • HOME CONSTRUCTION/HOMEOWNER PROGRAM: BLUE RIDGE HABITAT FOR HUMANITY (BRHFH) PROVIDES SAFE, AFFORDABLE HOUSING FOR LOW-INCOME FAMILIES IN THE CITY OF WINCHESTER, AND THE COUNTIES OF FREDERICK, CLARKE, AND SHENANDOAH EARNING 30% TO 80% OF THE AREA MEDIAN INCOME (AMI), AS DEFINED BY HUD. BY SETTING MORTGAGE PAYMENTS AT OR BELOW 30% OF GROSS ANNUAL INCOME, BRHFH ENSURES LONG-TERM AFFORDABILITY FOR HOMEOWNERS. AS AN AWARD-WINNING AFFORDABLE HOUSING BUILDER, BRHFH IS COMMITTED TO CONSTRUCTING HIGH-QUALITY, ENERGY-EFFICIENT, AND SUSTAINABLE HOMES THAT ARE NOT ONLY AFFORDABLE TO PURCHASE BUT ALSO ECONOMICAL TO MAINTAIN. AMID RISING CONSTRUCTION COSTS, BRHFH UTILIZES GRANTS AND DONOR SUPPORT TO HELP KEEP HOME SALE PRICES AFFORDABLE FOR FAMILIES. THE NATIONWIDE INCREASE IN HOME PRICES HAS PRICED MANY LOW-TO-MODERATE-INCOME FAMILIES OUT OF THE MARKET. BRHFH ADDRESSES THIS CHALLENGE BY OFFERING AFFORDABLE HOMEOWNERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES THROUGH FUNDS RAISED VIA DONATIONS AND GRANTS. SINCE 1997, BRHFH HAS SERVED 89 FAMILIES, WITH PLANS TO INCREASE CONSTRUCTION OF HOMES IN THE NEXT YEAR. CURRENTLY, BRHFH IS MANAGING $1 MILLION IN PROJECTS, WITH THREE HOMES COMPLETED AND IN THE PROCESS OF CLOSING. THIS WORK UNDERSCORES BRHFH'S COMMITMENT TO MAKING A LASTING IMPACT ON WORKING FAMILIES AND THE COMMUNITY.

    Expenses $713,987 · Revenue $352,572

  • HOMEOWNERSHIP SERVICES PROGRAMS HOMEOWNERSHIP FOR LOW-INCOME FAMILIES HAS PROFOUND IMPACTS THAT EXTEND BEYOND FINANCIAL STABILITY, INFLUENCING OVERALL COMMUNITY WELL-BEING. SECURE, STABLE HOUSING IMPROVES MENTAL AND PHYSICAL HEALTH BY REDUCING STRESS, FOSTERING A SENSE OF SAFETY, AND PROVIDING A HEALTHIER LIVING ENVIRONMENT. FAMILIES WHO OWN HOMES EXPERIENCE GREATER HOUSING STABILITY, WHICH CONTRIBUTES TO IMPROVED EDUCATIONAL OUTCOMES FOR CHILDREN AND STRONGER SOCIAL TIES WITHIN THE COMMUNITY. ECONOMICALLY, HOMEOWNERSHIP STIMULATES LOCAL GROWTH BY INCREASING PROPERTY VALUES, GENERATING TAX REVENUE, AND PROMOTING INVESTMENTS IN NEIGHBORHOOD INFRASTRUCTURE. BY ENHANCING QUALITY OF LIFE AND CONTRIBUTING TO THE ECONOMIC VITALITY OF CITIES, AFFORDABLE HOMEOWNERSHIP PLAYS A CRITICAL ROLE IN CREATING HEALTHIER, MORE RESILIENT COMMUNITIES. BRHFH MANAGES A DIVERSE RANGE OF PROGRAMS AIMED AT MAXIMIZING OUR IMPACT. THE ORGANIZATION SERVICES A PORTFOLIO OF 50 ACTIVE MORTGAGES, ALL NON-INTEREST LOANS FOR INDIVIDUALS WHO COMPLETED THE HOMEOWNER PROGRAM. HOMEOWNERS' COMPLETE FINANCIAL EDUCATION, HOUSING COUNSELING, AND 250 HOURS OF SWEAT EQUITY BEFORE PURCHASING THEIR HOMES. BRHFH ALSO OWNS AND MANAGES RENTAL UNITS, PROVIDING BELOW-MARKET RENT TO QUALIFIED TENANTS. THESE RENTALS ARE PART OF BRHFH'S COMMITMENT TO PRESERVING AFFORDABLE HOUSING IN TARGETED NEIGHBORHOODS.

    Expenses $538,747 · Revenue $242,137

  • WINCHESTER RESTORE: THE WINCHESTER RESTORE SUPPORTS THE ORGANIZATION'S MISSION BY SELLING DONATED GOODS AT REDUCED PRICES, WITH PROCEEDS DIRECTLY FUNDING AFFORDABLE HOUSING. IN FY24, THE RESTORE DIVERTED TONS OF ITEMS FROM ENDING UP IN LANDFILLS, PROMOTING REUSE, RECYCLING, AND REPURPOSING ALL OF WHICH BENEFIT THE PLANET BY REDUCING ENVIRONMENTAL STRAIN. IN ADDITION, THE RESTORE PROVIDED LOCAL JOBS AND VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES, SERVING APPROXIMATELY 19,000 CUSTOMERS. EVERY DOLLAR SPENT NOT ONLY SUPPORTS SUSTAINABLE SHOPPING BUT ALSO REINVESTS $1.70 INTO THE LOCAL ECONOMY, AMPLIFYING ITS IMPACT ON THE COMMUNITY.

    Expenses $556,012 · Revenue $463,044

  • HOME REPAIR AND AGING IN PLACE PROGRAM: BFHFH'S HOME REPAIR AND AGING IN PLACE PROGRAMS ASSISTS LOW-INCOME HOMEOWNERS, PARTICULARLY VETERANS AND SENIORS, WHO FACE CHALLENGES IN MAINTAINING THEIR HOMES DUE TO AGE, DISABILITY, AND/OR FINANCIAL CONSTRAINTS. THE PROGRAM FOCUSES ON CRITICAL HEALTH AND SAFETY REPAIRS, SUCH AS ROOF REPLACEMENTS, PORCH AND ENTRYWAY REPAIRS, AND ACCESSIBILITY MODIFICATIONS LIKE RAMP INSTALLATIONS. MAINTAINING A HOME IS CRUCIAL FOR LOW-INCOME SENIORS, AS IT PROVIDES THEM WITH STABILITY, INDEPENDENCE, AND A SENSE OF BELONGING IN THEIR COMMUNITIES. AGING IN PLACE ALLOWS SENIORS TO REMAIN IN FAMILIAR SURROUNDINGS, WHICH CAN SIGNIFICANTLY ENHANCE THEIR QUALITY OF LIFE AND EMOTIONAL WELL-BEING. HOWEVER, MANY FACE SUBSTANTIAL CHALLENGES, INCLUDING FIXED INCOMES THAT LIMIT THEIR ABILITY TO AFFORD NECESSARY REPAIRS AND MODIFICATIONS, SUCH AS INSTALLING GRAB BARS, FIXING LEAKS, OR IMPROVING ACCESSIBILITY. ADDITIONALLY, PHYSICAL LIMITATIONS AND HEALTH ISSUES CAN MAKE HOME MAINTENANCE DIFFICULT. WITHOUT ADEQUATE SUPPORT, THESE CHALLENGES CAN LEAD TO UNSAFE LIVING CONDITIONS, INCREASED STRESS, AND EVEN THE NEED TO RELOCATE TO ASSISTED LIVING FACILITIES. ADDRESSING THESE BARRIERS IS ESSENTIAL TO ENSURE THAT LOW-INCOME SENIORS CAN SUCCESSFULLY AGE IN PLACE WHILE MAINTAINING THEIR DIGNITY AND INDEPENDENCE. BRHFH COLLABORATES WITH VOLUNTEERS, LOCAL BUSINESSES, SUBCONTRACTORS, AND OTHER NON-PROFITS TO POOL RESOURCES AND COMPLETE REPAIRS THAT SUPPORT HOMEOWNERS TO AGE IN PLACE. BRHFH IS COMMITTED TO CONTINUING TO SERVE THE COMMUNITY, DEMONSTRATING OUR ONGOING DEDICATION TO SUPPORTING VULNERABLE HOMEOWNERS AND CREATING SAFER, MORE SUSTAINABLE LIVING ENVIRONMENTS.
