Mission and programs · 2023

Mission

TO PROVIDE AND FACILITATE COMPREHENSIVE PROGRAMS AND SERVICES THAT SUPPORT CHILDREN, STRENGTHEN FAMILIES, AND MOBILIZE RESIDENTS TO ACTION.

  • EXPANDED LEARNING TIME PROGRAMS: OUR AFTERSCHOOL PROGRAMS OPERATE MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY AND USE INNOVATIVE TECHNIQUES TO CLOSE THE ACHIEVEMENT GAP FOR APPROXIMATELY 200 STUDENTS IN GRADES PRE-K THROUGH FIFTH. DURING THE ACADEMIC BLOCK, CERTIFIED TEACHERS WORK WITH SMALL GROUPS OF STUDENTS TO SUPPORT THEM IN THE COMPLETION OF THEIR HOMEWORK AND PRACTICE SKILLS LEARNED IN SCHOOL DAY LESSONS. DURING THE EXTRACURRICULAR ENRICHMENT BLOCK, STUDENTS PARTICIPATE IN ACTIVITIES THAT INCREASE FINE MOTOR SKILLS, BROADEN STEM SKILLS, AND EXPOSE THEM TO ALL FORMS OF ART. THE SUMMER PROGRAMS SERVE ABOUT 300 STUDENTS AND INCLUDE SMALL GROUP LEARNING, EXTRACURRICULAR ENRICHMENT AND FIELD TRIPS. (CONTINUED ON SCHEDULE O)

    Expenses $649,697

  • COMMUNITY AND PARENT ENGAGEMENT: FAMILY ENGAGEMENT NIGHTS ARE A MAJOR PART OF OUR EFFORTS TO CONNECT FAMILIES, PROMOTE EDUCATIONAL ENGAGEMENT, AND FOSTER A SENSE OF COMMUNITY. THESE NIGHTS ARE DESIGNED TO BRING FAMILIES TOGETHER IN A FUN, EDUCATIONAL ENVIRONMENT THAT SUPPORTS BOTH LEARNING AND RELATIONSHIP BUILDING. IN COLLABORATION WITH CORPORATE PARTNERS LIKE BOSCH, CPN PROVIDES TAKE-HOME STEM KITS FOR FAMILIES TO COMPLETE TOGETHER, INSPIRING CURIOSITY IN SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING AND CREATING OPPORTUNITIES FOR HANDS-ON LEARNING AT HOME. (CONTINUED ON SCHEDULE O)

    Expenses $267,729

  • SCHOOL DAY INITIATIVES: RECOGNIZING THE UNIQUE CHALLENGES FACED BY OUR LOCAL SCHOOLS, WE PROVIDE TARGETED SUPPORT TO PRINCIPALS AT SOME OF THE TOUGHEST SCHOOLS IN THE STATE. THIS INCLUDES OFFERING STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIPS, ADDITIONAL STAFFING, PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT FOR TEACHERS, AND DISCRETIONARY FUNDING. BY EQUIPPING SCHOOLS WITH NECESSARY RESOURCES AND EXPERTISE, WE AIM TO IMPROVE EDUCATIONAL OUTCOMES, FOSTER INNOVATION, AND CREATE AN ENVIRONMENT CONDUCIVE TO LEARNING.

    Expenses $127,179

  • KIDSWELL COMMUNITY HEALTH: STARTING IN 2011, OUR COMMUNITY HEALTH PROGRAM, NAMED KIDSWELL, INCLUDES HAVING A NURSE PRACTITIONER AND A PHYSICIAN ON-SITE ONE OR TWO DAYS A WEEK AT EACH OF OUR SCHOOLS. WE PARTNER WITH THE MEDICAL UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH CAROLINA AND FETTER HEALTH CARE NETWORK TO PROVIDE THESE SERVICES TO THE STUDENTS. THIS PROGRAM OFFERS THE CONVENIENCE OF TREATING A CHILD WHILE AT SCHOOL, SO THE PARENTS DONT NEED TO TAKE TIME OFF FROM WORK AND THE STUDENT SPENDS MORE TIME IN THE CLASSROOM. THE PROGRAM IS AVAILABLE TO ALL STUDENTS AT THE SCHOOL AND ACCEPTS MEDICAID INSURANCE. IN ADDITION, THROUGH THIS PROGRAM THE SCHOOL NURSE CAN PRESENT THE CHILD TO AN ATTENDING PHYSICIAN ANY DAY OF THE SCHOOL WEEK THROUGH THE TELE-HEALTH PROGRAM. THROUGHOUT THE TIME OF COVID, NURSES AND PHYSICIANS WERE ABLE TO STAY CONNECTED TO STUDENT PATIENTS THROUGH TELE-HEALTH USING THE PARENT OR GUARDIANS MOBILE PHONE. TELE-MENTAL HEALTH IS ALSO AVAILABLE TO ALL STUDENTS. OVER THE YEARS, KIDSWELL HAS BEEN QUITE SUCCESSFUL IN BEHAVIOR MANAGEMENT THROUGH CASE MANAGEMENT FOR STUDENTS WITH ASTHMA AND ADHD.

    Expenses $117,970

Compensation is as filed in Part VII: reportable pay from this organization and from related organizations, other compensation, and hours per week. The total, marked calculated, is our sum of the three dollar columns, with a blank column counted as $0; the form itself has no total. On a Form 990-EZ the columns are Part IV's instead, and on a Form 990-PF Part VIII's — compensation, contributions to benefit plans, and expense account — and the total sums those.
