Mission and programs · 2022

Primary exempt purpose

Our mission is to lend support to Ukraine in strengthening its healthcare and bringing it to the highest international standards by developing a platform for cooperation and mutual enrichment between Ukraine and the United States.

  • We funded a reprint of three of our previously translated military medical texts: Emergency War Surgery, Combat Operational Behavioral Health, and Mild Traumatic Brain Injury. The books were printed and distributed for free by our partner organization in Ukraine, the publishing house Nash Format. In cooperation with Nash Format, we also translated educational materials in Tactical Combat Casualty Care, TCCC. This work is coordinated with the Defense Health Agency's Joint Trauma System and the Committee on TCCC. The translated materials comprise the TCCC clinical guidelines and educational courses in increasing complexity. The didactic materials and dubbed videos on the first three courses are published at tccc.org.ua.

    Grants $15,000

  • We provided Ukraine with surgical sets for the external fixation of fractures and devices for negative pressure wound care (wound VAC). The American Ukrainian Medical Foundation (AUMF) continues to solicit equipment domestically and organizes its shipment to Ukraine as well as supports the manufacturing of such equipment within Ukraine. We funded the production of 90 external fixators in Lviv and Uzhgorod and received positive feedback from surgeons who applied them in treating patients. The most recent production of 40 external fixators is currently in transition to the Hospital of State Border Guards in Kyiv.

    Grants $14,999

  • We arranged and financed the shipment to Ukraine of 50 books of Atlas of Amputations & Limb Deficiencies. These books were generously donated by the American Academy of the Orthopaedic Surgeons. We also funded two editions of the Orthopedics, Traumatology and Prosthetics journal published by the Ukrainian National Academy of Medical Sciences Sytenko Institute of Spine and Joint Pathology.
