Activities or mission (Part I)

SEEKING TO PUT GOD'S LOVE INTO ACTION, HABITAT FOR HUMANITY BRINGS PEOPLE TOGETHER TO BUILD HOMES, COMMUNITIES, AND HOPE.

  • Habitat Charlotte Region has been the leading provider of affordable homeownership and home repair solutions since 1983, serving families earning 80% or less of the Area Median Income. We operate in Gaston, Iredell, North Mecklenburg, and the cities of Charlotte, and Pineville, supporting a region of over 1.5 million people. In FY 25 we partnered with 197 families through affordable housing solutions and with more than 350 on financial education. In October 2024, we merged with Habitat for Humanity of Gaston County, combining our individual effort to strengthen affordable housing across the region. This merger expands impact, maximizes resources, and increases affordable homeownership opportunities. Our mission is to promote affordable homeownership as a path to financial stability and economic mobility. We achieve this through three programs: *Critical Home Repair - Providing repairs that address health and safety hazards, allowing homeowners to avoid displacement. *New Homeownership - Constructing and renovating homes sold at fair market value with affordable mortgages. *Financial Education - Offering assessments, education, coaching, and partner referrals to prepare individuals for homeownership. This activity is supported by contribution revenue which is reported in Part VIII column A and is not reflected as program service revenue.

    Expenses $21,505,146 · Revenue $14,635,901

  • Our mission is sustained through a healthy mix of funding streams to support our operating needs, growth goals and strategic plan. 7 ReStores, where we sell new and gently-used furniture, appliances, home decor, and building materials support our operational expenses. Donations from individuals, corporations, foundations and faith partners remain a strong financial resource for Habitat Charlotte Region, and public grants continue to enable us to scale our programs and pilot new programs. This year, we also launched a $20M capacity building campaign and confirmed the first $5M in commitments. Habitat Charlotte Region understands the effects of homeownership on asset-building and wealth, and is committed to serving the community while recognizing that change and adaptability are key to intensifying our impact. Next year we are launching 2 co-developed, mixed income, light-density projects that will help scale our business model and demonstrate the power of collaboration and growth. This activity is supported by contribution revenue which is reported in Part VIII column A and is not reflected as program service revenue.

    Expenses $16,962,229 · Revenue $9,279,798

  • Our Critical Home Repair program provides qualified families with significant home repairs, improving substandard housing conditions for those with limited financial resources and preserving affordable units in our community. Our team focuses on four essential health and safety issues: unsafe roofs or floors, lacking heat, electrical system hazards, and plumbing hazards while also addressing accessibility issues in and around the home. 197 families were served through this program during the year.

    Expenses $7,804,478 · Revenue $545

  • Building on the success of Money Matters, a financial literacy course focused on helping individuals become homebuyer ready, Habitat Charlotte Region expanded its financial literacy programming to offer three pathways depending on an individual's financial readiness. This approach allows us to provide a more customized experience and timeline based on an initial financial assessment. Through the expanded financial literacy program, now called Pathways and Partners, the affiliate helped 350 families. During the year, Habitat Charlotte Region provided support to Habitat for Humanity International.

The first 25 listed. Compensation is as filed in Part VII: reportable pay from this organization and from related organizations, other compensation, and hours per week. The total, marked calculated, is our sum of the three dollar columns, with a blank column counted as $0; the form itself has no total. On a Form 990-EZ the columns are Part IV's instead, and on a Form 990-PF Part VIII's — compensation, contributions to benefit plans, and expense account — and the total sums those. A Schedule J breakdown is as filed: base pay, bonus, other, deferred compensation and nontaxable benefits from this organization, with any from related organizations beside each, and the filer's own total. It is shown with the Part VII listing of the same name on the same return. The form gives no key between the two, so that pairing is ours, and is marked matched by us. Earlier years are each on their own filing page.

Nonprofiteer parses Forms 990, 990-EZ and 990-PF, in a window of recent tax years. These returns are recorded from the IRS e-file index, so their figures were extracted by that index rather than read from the return here — treat them as a different source from the filings above, not as more of the same record. A dash means the index carries no figure; Form 990-T listings carry none at all. Showing the 10 most recent; the API carries the rest.

Auto-Revocation List

Not listed. The IRS publishes this list for organizations whose exemption was automatically revoked for failing to file for three consecutive years.

Publication 78

Not present in the most recent drop.

These are two separate IRS files on two separate schedules, shown as published and not reconciled with each other. Neither is a statement about whether a contribution is deductible today: 19,245 organizations appear in Publication 78 while the IRS's own revocation file lists them as currently revoked, more than half of those revoked before 2019. Absence from Publication 78 is evidence of nothing, and presence is not evidence either. Verify current status with the IRS before relying on it.
