Mission and programs · 2024

Mission

We exist to inspire hope, save lives, and improve quality of life for people living with brain changes caused by dementia or another brain condition and the community as a whole.

Activities or mission (Part I)

To inspire hope, save lives, and improve the quality of life for people living with brain changes caused by dementia or other brain conditions.

  • Engagement - We have conducted over 100 complimentary Brain Connection Cafes over the past year, serving between 15 and 90 people per session average of 20 on Mondays and 45 on Fridays, depending on the week and session. We have conducted over 35 additional complimentary special programs within the Hillsborough County regional area to heighten community awareness of brain change and opportunities for families and people living with dementia to engage in community life and activities. Community members have used the space to offer Art classes, music sessions, death cafes, church programs, teen events, line dancing, improve classes, and more. Neuronation offered free PT classes over 12 Fridays following the Brain Cafe. Teepa offered 50 Care Partner Education Sessions on Fridays 11-12p. We have served on multiple boards and committees to engage with the community of change. See Schedule O for more specifics.

    Expenses $113,779

  • Trainings - We have offered 60 complimentary knowledge and skill sessions for families, individuals, or organizations at the SAF Hillsborough location or at their preferred location. We have enhanced Positive Approach to Care Certifications by holding them onsite and inviting in local teachers both living with brain change and their partners to support education and practice. This work has engaged national and international visitors through 16 Certification Courses held at SAF and 10 full-day Skills Trainings. We have provided training for Orange County EMS, Duke and UNC Nursing programs, financial advisors, and more. We are beginning to use videos to expand training beyond the in-person people so that this work can benefit the global community.

    Expenses $55,618 · Revenue $12,500

  • Consults - We have conducted over 250 complimentary consults over the course of the year. They include consults for individuals, family members, teams of care supporters, and professionals providing support to participants in SAF programs.

    Expenses $55,155 · Revenue $8,250

Compensation is as filed in Part VII: reportable pay from this organization and from related organizations, other compensation, and hours per week. The total, marked calculated, is our sum of the three dollar columns, with a blank column counted as $0; the form itself has no total. On a Form 990-EZ the columns are Part IV's instead, and on a Form 990-PF Part VIII's — compensation, contributions to benefit plans, and expense account — and the total sums those. Earlier years are each on their own filing page.

Grants made

No itemized grants to organizations. Schedule I is filed only by organizations that granted more than $5,000 to a recipient, so most filers have none.

Grants received

Taxable family

From Schedule R Parts I, III and IV: entities that legally are the filer, and taxable partnerships, corporations and trusts it is related to. These record ownership and control, not shared board members or money.

Auto-Revocation List

Not listed. The IRS publishes this list for organizations whose exemption was automatically revoked for failing to file for three consecutive years.

Publication 78

Listed as of 13 October 2026, under deductibility PC.

These are two separate IRS files on two separate schedules, shown as published and not reconciled with each other. Neither is a statement about whether a contribution is deductible today: 19,245 organizations appear in Publication 78 while the IRS's own revocation file lists them as currently revoked, more than half of those revoked before 2019. Absence from Publication 78 is evidence of nothing, and presence is not evidence either. Verify current status with the IRS before relying on it.
