Mission
The Belmont Food Pantry and The Closet provide food, clothing, hygiene items, housewares, and resources to help support those facing food and housing insecurity. We partner/collaborate with other nonprofits/government agencies to access services to help our families move beyond food insecurity. In 2024, over 73,000 people were provided support through our programs.
Activities or mission (Part I)
The BCRS mission is "To be the hands and feet of God by mobilizing resources to nourish the mind, body and spirit of our neighbors." Our Vision is that we are "A community where our neighbors essential needs are met and acts of service reflect God's heart-building dignity, stability, and connection."

The Belmont Food Pantry has been distributing food on the Southside of Richmond every Friday from 8:30 am to noon for over 20 years (never missed a Friday distribution). Our drive-thru and walk-up style pantry provides 30 lbs. of food per family each week. However, when the demand is high those coming after 11 am may receive 20-25 lbs. depending on our inventory and family size. Four hourly employees and more than 90 weekly volunteers (over 16,800 hours annually) manage food collection and distribution weekly. In 2024, more than 600,000 lbs. of food was received from our 13 Feed More grocery store partners, 117,000 lbs. of dry goods from local churches and community food drives, and we purchased over 200,000 lbs. of food from Feed More. Our program grew by 15% in 2024 feeding an additional 12,000 people.

The Closet has been in operation for more than 15 years, providing high quality clothing, shoes, hygiene items, housewares, books, and some toys to pantry guests at no cost. Donation collection, organization, and distribution is overseen by a part-time program associate and dedicated volunteers. The Closet receives donations throughout the week and is open for 'shopping" from 8:45am to noon every Friday and shoppers may fill a large grocery bag. Nonclothing items can be selected as well, however, there is often a waiting list for items such as small appliances, dishes, cookware, coats, and specific sizes. In 2024, we distributed more than 140,000 items to help support our families, many of which experienced food insecurity, housing insecurity, and/or immigration to the US. In 2024, nearly 90% of our guests were women (shopping for a family) and over 70% identified as Hispanic. In 2024, The Closet supported more than 130 shoppers a week.

Compensation is as filed in Part VII: reportable pay from this organization and from related organizations, other compensation, and hours per week. The total, marked calculated, is our sum of the three dollar columns, with a blank column counted as $0; the form itself has no total. On a Form 990-EZ the columns are Part IV's instead, and on a Form 990-PF Part VIII's — compensation, contributions to benefit plans, and expense account — and the total sums those. Earlier years are each on their own filing page.

Nonprofiteer parses Forms 990, 990-EZ and 990-PF, in a window of recent tax years. These returns are recorded from the IRS e-file index, so their figures were extracted by that index rather than read from the return here — treat them as a different source from the filings above, not as more of the same record. A dash means the index carries no figure; Form 990-T listings carry none at all.

Auto-Revocation List
Not listed. The IRS publishes this list for organizations whose exemption was automatically revoked for failing to file for three consecutive years.
Publication 78
Listed as of 13 October 2026, under deductibility PC.
These are two separate IRS files on two separate schedules, shown as published and not reconciled with each other. Neither is a statement about whether a contribution is deductible today: 19,245 organizations appear in Publication 78 while the IRS's own revocation file lists them as currently revoked, more than half of those revoked before 2019. Absence from Publication 78 is evidence of nothing, and presence is not evidence either. Verify current status with the IRS before relying on it.
