Mission

A SPRING OF HOPE IS A NONPROFIT THAT PROVIDES CLEAN DRINKING WATER, WATERLESS SANITATION SYSTEMS, PERMACULTURE GARDENS, ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES AND STUDENT EMPOWERMENT PROGRAMS TO SCHOOLS AND COMMUNITY CENTERS IN RURAL SOUTH AFRICA.

  • A Spring of Hope, Inc. funds and oversees clean water, sanitation, food security, education support and economic empowerment programs serving schools and communities in the Mpumalanga and Limpopo Provinces of South Africa. Program activities are carried out on the ground by A Spring of Hope SA, separate foreign not-for-profit entity from A Spring of Hope located in the United States, which reports to the organization on the projects undertaken and the use of the funds provided. 2025 ACCOMPLISHMENTS: COMMUNITY ECO-HUB Construction of the Spring of Hope Community Eco-Hub was completed on a four-hectare site, and the facility is fully operational. It includes a 50-seat classroom, meeting room, pack house, processing room, pantry and storeroom, a borehole, two Enviro-loos and one flush toilet, together with three hydroponic tunnels (10m x 30m each) and one shade-net garden (10m x 30m). The Eco-Hub serves as a center for agricultural production, food security training, entrepreneurship development and community empowerment. WATER ACCESS Three boreholes were drilled between February and June 2025 at the Community Eco-Hub, Makgahlishe Primary School, and the Cottondale Disability Centre significantly improving access to clean water for schools and community beneficiaries. SAFER KITCHENS A fully equipped kitchen with propane stoves and clean running water was built at Panyana Primary School, and the kitchen at Masweng Primary School was upgraded with a new roof, shelving, plumbing, electrical improvements and paint, supporting safe meal preparation for learners. SCHOOL NUTRITION More than 20,000 meals were served at Nkotobona High School through the Afternoon Meal Program, which supports Grade 12 learners attending afternoon classes. FINANCIAL LITERACY During Money Smart Week South Africa in August 2025, workshops were delivered in partnership with the Banking Association South Africa, First National Bank, Nedbank and Post Bank at Panyana Primary School and Nkotobona High School in Mpumalanga, and Sekoko Primary School and Maatla Primary School in Limpopo, covering budgeting, saving and responsible banking. GIRLS CLUB A year-long program at Matlolane Primary School and Beretta Primary School provided life skills development, confidence building, menstrual health education, and menstrual products to Grade 7 girls, supporting them to remain in school. WOMEN IN ENTREPRENEURSHIP Forty-two young women were trained in business management, technical skills and enterprise development. Four new businesses were established, in primary, secondary and tertiary farming and in e-waste management. WARRIORS PROGRAM Launched in December 2025, this character development and leadership program enrolled 20 Grade 7 learners in its first intake, addressing leadership, personal accountability, emotional resilience, responsible citizenship and community service. PERMACULTURE TRAINING Three permaculture training workshops were conducted, benefiting 22 schools and community projects represented by educators and garden support staff, to promote food security and sustainable organic vegetable production. ARCHITECTURE MENTORSHIP Four learners from Nkotobona High School continued weekly online architecture classes facilitated by a donor architect based in New York, with local support from staff and an educator, and advanced to using SketchUp Pro software provided to them.

Compensation is as filed in Part VII: reportable pay from this organization and from related organizations, other compensation, and hours per week. The total, marked calculated, is our sum of the three dollar columns, with a blank column counted as $0; the form itself has no total. On a Form 990-EZ the columns are Part IV's instead, and on a Form 990-PF Part VIII's — compensation, contributions to benefit plans, and expense account — and the total sums those. Earlier years are each on their own filing page.

Nonprofiteer parses Forms 990, 990-EZ and 990-PF, in a window of recent tax years. These returns are recorded from the IRS e-file index, so their figures were extracted by that index rather than read from the return here — treat them as a different source from the filings above, not as more of the same record. A dash means the index carries no figure; Form 990-T listings carry none at all. Showing the 10 most recent; the API carries the rest.

Grants made

No itemized grants to organizations. Schedule I is filed only by organizations that granted more than $5,000 to a recipient, so most filers have none.

Auto-Revocation List

Not listed. The IRS publishes this list for organizations whose exemption was automatically revoked for failing to file for three consecutive years.

Publication 78

Listed as of 13 October 2026, under deductibility PC.

These are two separate IRS files on two separate schedules, shown as published and not reconciled with each other. Neither is a statement about whether a contribution is deductible today: 19,245 organizations appear in Publication 78 while the IRS's own revocation file lists them as currently revoked, more than half of those revoked before 2019. Absence from Publication 78 is evidence of nothing, and presence is not evidence either. Verify current status with the IRS before relying on it.
