Our strategic goals are to: raise awareness through advocacy accelerate mission-driven research target education programs grow resources in support of the mission demonstrate commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion

Activities or mission (Part I)

Our program activities are focused around congenital CMV education and advocacy. We deliver education about congenital CMV to families and women of childbearing age through digital platforms, strategic partnerships, public health initiatives, and grassroots advocacy efforts. We advocate for the screening of newborns so we may properly evaluate and identify these babies to enroll them in the proper treatment as standard of care. Our programs include the CMV Community Alliance; CMV Partnership Alliance; education & outreach services targeting the women of childbearing age and general public, childcare providers, and healthcare providers; advocacy support; and early career research awards

  • Public Health Awareness: The National CMV Foundation creates and disseminates evidence-based health education on congenital CMV, including prevention strategies during pregnancy, modes of transmission, potential outcomes, newborn screening, treatment options, and relevant public health policies. Through diverse communication channels, such as web content, email marketing, social media, paid media, print materials, videos, toolkits, educational downloads, and continuing education activities, the Foundation reaches women of childbearing age, families, child care providers, and healthcare professionals nationwide. In 2024, the Foundations advocacy leadership contributed to the introduction of the Stop CMV Act, the first federally coordinated effort aiming to provide funding and incentives to increase screening of newborns for congenital cytomegalovirus.

    Expenses $166,078

  • Community Building: Representatives of the National CMV Foundation hosted a variety of in-person and virtual events designed to strengthen community engagement, raise awareness, and expand advocacy for congenital CMV risk reduction. These gatherings included educational webinars, advocacy trainings, and fundraising events that united families, healthcare professionals, and partners nationwide, building connection, empowerment, and sustained support for those impacted by CMV.

    Expenses $99,547

  • RESEARCH SUPPORT: The National CMV Foundation supports a range of research initiatives and efforts, including workshops and grants for young investigators and early-career researchers studying maternal or congenital CMV infection. Areas of focus include public health, epidemiology, diagnosis, treatment, outcomes, basic science, and vaccine development, all aligned with the Foundations mission to promote maternal and newborn health and reduce the incidence of congenital CMV in the United States. Representatives of the National CMV Foundation were also instrumental in securing the FY '24 inclusion of congenital CMV in the Department of Defenses Peer-Reviewed Medical Research Program, opening new opportunities for federally funded CMV research and innovation, totaling over $700,000.

Compensation is as filed in Part VII: reportable pay from this organization and from related organizations, other compensation, and hours per week. The total, marked calculated, is our sum of the three dollar columns, with a blank column counted as $0; the form itself has no total. On a Form 990-EZ the columns are Part IV's instead, and on a Form 990-PF Part VIII's — compensation, contributions to benefit plans, and expense account — and the total sums those. Earlier years are each on their own filing page.

Nonprofiteer parses Forms 990, 990-EZ and 990-PF, in a window of recent tax years. These returns are recorded from the IRS e-file index, so their figures were extracted by that index rather than read from the return here — treat them as a different source from the filings above, not as more of the same record. A dash means the index carries no figure; Form 990-T listings carry none at all.

Auto-Revocation List

Not listed. The IRS publishes this list for organizations whose exemption was automatically revoked for failing to file for three consecutive years.

Publication 78

Listed as of 13 October 2026, under deductibility PC.

These are two separate IRS files on two separate schedules, shown as published and not reconciled with each other. Neither is a statement about whether a contribution is deductible today: 19,245 organizations appear in Publication 78 while the IRS's own revocation file lists them as currently revoked, more than half of those revoked before 2019. Absence from Publication 78 is evidence of nothing, and presence is not evidence either. Verify current status with the IRS before relying on it.
