Mission and programs · 2024
Mission
Aliento serves undocumented, DACA, and mixed immigration status families to transform trauma into hope and action. It is led by directly impacted individuals, youth, and supporters who strive to create an environment where human potential is nurtured and not defined by immigration status. Aliento supports students and families impacted by the inequities of lacking immigration status through education initiatives, arts & healing programming, leadership development training, policy & advocacy.
Activities or mission (Part I)
Aliento serves students, Dreamers, and mixed immigration-status families to transform trauma into hope and action.
-
Our work is divided into a four-prong approach: 1 Cultiva is the name of our arts & healing programming where we provide arts & healing workshops and mental health support through group therapy, open mics, and events at schools and in the community. In the community, Aliento offers arts & healing workshops and open mics open to anyone in the community ages 7 and up. At schools, Aliento partners with K-20 education institutions to do the programming at school sites. 2 Nurture is the leadership development & ally engagement programming of the organization that is part of our education initiatives. Aliento works with high schools, community colleges, and universities to increase youth agency, leadership, and self-advocacy. Aliento provides paid fellowships & internships for school credit to help create and develop student hubs at high schools, colleges, and universities across Arizona. 3 Transform is our program rooted in the sentiment that no one can accomplish things alone. Aliento believes in broadening the coalition of support to create sustainable change in our communities and achieve Alientos mission of transforming trauma into hope and action. This is why we do professional development for educators, and host training with faith leaders, school leaders, and state legislators. 4 Policy and Advocacy are our fourth approach to ensure systems and structures are equitable regardless of immigration status. In 2022, Alientos students, allies, and coalition partners advocacy led to the passage of in-state tuition and college scholarships for Arizona students regardless of immigration status.

Compensation is as filed in Part VII: reportable pay from this organization and from related organizations, other compensation, and hours per week. The total, marked calculated, is our sum of the three dollar columns, with a blank column counted as $0; the form itself has no total. On a Form 990-EZ the columns are Part IV's instead, and on a Form 990-PF Part VIII's — compensation, contributions to benefit plans, and expense account — and the total sums those. Earlier years are each on their own filing page.

Nonprofiteer parses Forms 990, 990-EZ and 990-PF, in a window of recent tax years. These returns are recorded from the IRS e-file index, so their figures were extracted by that index rather than read from the return here — treat them as a different source from the filings above, not as more of the same record. A dash means the index carries no figure; Form 990-T listings carry none at all.

Auto-Revocation List
Not listed. The IRS publishes this list for organizations whose exemption was automatically revoked for failing to file for three consecutive years.
Publication 78
Listed as of 13 October 2026, under deductibility PC.
These are two separate IRS files on two separate schedules, shown as published and not reconciled with each other. Neither is a statement about whether a contribution is deductible today: 19,245 organizations appear in Publication 78 while the IRS's own revocation file lists them as currently revoked, more than half of those revoked before 2019. Absence from Publication 78 is evidence of nothing, and presence is not evidence either. Verify current status with the IRS before relying on it.
