Activities or mission (Part I)

TO PRESERVE, STEWARD, AND CONNECT PEOPLE TO THE LAND IN NORTHERN CHESTER COUNTY PENNSYLVANIA

  • FRENCH AND PICKERING CREEKS CONSERVATION TRUST HAS WORKED WITH LANDOWNERS, PUBLIC AND PRIVATE PARTNERS, TO PRESERVE THE QUALITY OF LIFE AND THE ENVIRONMENT OF NORTHERN CHESTER COUNTY. SINCE 1967, FRENCH & PICKERING HAS HELPED PERMANENTLY PROTECT OVER 13,500 ACRES INCLUDING LANDS PURCHASED AND TRANSFERRED FOR STATE GAME LANDS, STATE PARKS, COUNTY PARKS AND MUNICIPAL PARKS. CURRENTLY FRENCH & PICKERING HOLDS APPROXIMATELY 193 CONSERVATION EASEMENTS OVER 7,758 ACRES AND OWNS AND MANAGES 889 ACRES HELD IN FEE OWNERSHIP COMPRISED OF 29 PARCELS. ALL LANDS ARE MONITORED ANNUALLY BY FRENCH & PICKERING STAFF TO ASSIST LANDOWNERS WITH THEIR LAND MANAGEMENT AND NATURAL RESOURCE STEWARDSHIP. SEE ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON SCHEDULE OIN 2023 THE FOLLOWING 2 CONSERVATION EASEMENTS AND ONE CONSERVATION EASEMENT AMENDMENT WERE COMPLETED:1) A 7.5 ACRE VOLUNTARY AND PERMANENT LAND PROTECTION EASEMENT WAS COMPLTED WITH THE WHITE FAMILY IN NORTH COVENTRY TOWNSHIP. THE PROPERTY IS VISIBLE FROM PUBLIC RIGHTS-OF-WAY AND IS LOCATED NEAR THE INTERSECTION OF WELLS ROAD AND ST. PETERS ROAD. NORTH COVENTRY TOWNSHIP CONTRIBUTED FUNDS TO COVER TRANSACTION COSTS AND THE WHITE FAMILY DONATED THE VALUE OF THE VOLUNTARY EASEMENT. LOCATED AT THE HEADWATERS OF PIGEON CREEK, THIS PROPERTY IS IMPORTANT FOR WATER QUALITY AND PROTECTS A CRITICAL WILDLIFE CORRIDOR. THIS PROJECT CONNECTS THE 700+ COVENTRY WOODS PRESERVE WITH NEARBY FRENCH CREEK STATE PARK AND IS HOME TO A LARGE VERNAL POOL WHICH IS THE LOCATION OF A SIGNIFICANT AMPHIBIAN MIGRATION EACH YEAR.2) A 37.5 ACRE VOLUNTARY CONSERVATION EASEMSENT WAS COMPLETED WITH THE NESSPOR FAMILY TO PERMANENTLY PRESERVE THEIR PROPERTY LOCATED ON ELLIS WOODS ROAD IN EAST COVENTRY TOWNSHIP. AS A RESULT OF THIS EASEMENT, THE PROPERTY WILL REMAIN IN ACTIVE FARM USE. THIS VOLUNTARY PERMANENT LAND PROTECTION WAS COMPLETED IN PARTNERSHIP WITH EAST COVENTRY TOWNSHIP AND CHESTER COUNTY. THE PROPERTY INCLUDES A LARGE BANK BARN, THE ORIGINAL STONE HOUSE HOMEPLACE, A STONE SPRINGHOUSE AND POND WITH A TRIBUTARY TO PIGEON CREEK. HIGHLY VISIBLE FROM EBELHARE AND ELLIS WOODS ROADS, THE PROPERTY HAD BEEN A HIGH PRIORITY FOR PRESERVATION BASED ON ITS HIGH DEVELOPMENT POTENTIAL. ONLY ONE ACCESSORY DWELLING WILL BE PERMITTED ALONG WITH SOME ADDITIONAL AGRICULTURAL STRUCTURES AS MAY BE NEEDED TO KEEP FARMING VIABLE INTO THE FUTURE. 3) A SUBSTANTIVE AND VOLUNTARY CONSERVATION EASEMENT AMENDMENT WAS COMPLETED ON TWO PARCELS OWNED BY MOOSE MEADOWS PROPERTIES, LLC FOR 138.2 ACRES. THE PROPERTY IS HIGHLY VISIBLE FROM WARWICK FURNACE ROAD IN WARWICK TOWNSHIP. THE AMENDMENT PLACES 53 OF THOSE ACRES UNDER EASEMENT THAT HAD NOT PREVIOUSLY BEEN PRESERVED. THE PRE-EXISTING EASEMENT WAS RECORDED IN 1976. INCREASING THE LAND COVERED TO INCLUDE THE ENTIRETY OF THE PROPERTIES AND UPDATING THE LANGUAGE IN THE EASEMENT TO MODERN STANDARDS WAS A SIGNIFICANT MILESTONE IN THIS RIPARIAN VALLEY ALONG WITH SOUTH BRANCH OF FRENCH CREEK WITH A HIGH CONCENTRATION OF PERMANENTLY PRESERVED PROPERTIES. THE EASEMENT AMENDMENT PROHIBITS FUTURE SUBDIVISION AND ELIMINATES ALL FUTHER RESIDENTIAL CONSTRUCTION AND ADDS CLARITY AND STRUCTURE TO THE PROPERTY'S EASEMENT.THE VOLUNTARY PERMANENT LAND PROTECTION PROJECTS COMPLETED IN 2023 INVOLVED SIGNIFICANT DONATED LAND VALUE WHICH COUNTED AS REVENUE. THESE FUNDS REIMBURSED EXPENSES AS NEEDED TO COMPLETE THE AFOREMENTIONED TRANSACTIONS WHILE THE LANDOWNERS VOLUNTARY DONATION OF LAND VALUE (ALSO REFERRED TO AS A BARGAIN SALE) DID NOT RESULT IN CASH BEING RECEIVED BY THE ORGANIZATION BUT IS ACCOUNTED FOR AS REVENUE AS FRENCH & PICKERING IS RESPONSIBLE FOR PERMANENTLY HOLDING AND PROTECTING THE CONSERVATION VALUES OF THESE PROPERTIES.

Compensation is as filed in Part VII: reportable pay from this organization and from related organizations, other compensation, and hours per week. The total, marked calculated, is our sum of the three dollar columns, with a blank column counted as $0; the form itself has no total. On a Form 990-EZ the columns are Part IV's instead, and on a Form 990-PF Part VIII's — compensation, contributions to benefit plans, and expense account — and the total sums those. Earlier years are each on their own filing page.

Nonprofiteer parses Forms 990, 990-EZ and 990-PF, in a window of recent tax years. These returns are recorded from the IRS e-file index, so their figures were extracted by that index rather than read from the return here — treat them as a different source from the filings above, not as more of the same record. A dash means the index carries no figure; Form 990-T listings carry none at all. Showing the 10 most recent; the API carries the rest.

Grants made

No itemized grants to organizations. Schedule I is filed only by organizations that granted more than $5,000 to a recipient, so most filers have none.

Grants received

The 10 largest by cash amount. The API serves every itemized grant.

Auto-Revocation List

Not listed. The IRS publishes this list for organizations whose exemption was automatically revoked for failing to file for three consecutive years.

Publication 78

Listed as of 13 October 2026, under deductibility PC.

These are two separate IRS files on two separate schedules, shown as published and not reconciled with each other. Neither is a statement about whether a contribution is deductible today: 19,245 organizations appear in Publication 78 while the IRS's own revocation file lists them as currently revoked, more than half of those revoked before 2019. Absence from Publication 78 is evidence of nothing, and presence is not evidence either. Verify current status with the IRS before relying on it.
