Mission

To apply human ingenuity to the preservation of nature using science, technology, and lasting partnerships with conservation practitioners.

Activities or mission (Part I)

To use science, technology, and lasting partnerships to help solve conservation problems.

  • Conservation Science Partners (CSP) is a nonprofit established to meet the research and technical needs of diverse clients and stakeholders in conservation projects around the world. Our mission is to apply human ingenuity to the preservation of nature using science, technology, and lasting partnerships with conservation practitioners. Our scientific capabilities help society to rigorously address the critical problems facing the natural environment on public and private lands. Drawing from the realms of the environmental, social, and computer sciences, our projects result in durable, defensible, academic-grade science designed to guide nonpartisan and independent decision-making.(Continued on Schedule O)To achieve and increase our impact over the last year, we: 1) engaged non-governmental organizations, foundations, agencies, socially progressive companies, and other sectors of society in a diversity of opportunities and in the user-centered design of our work; 2) carefully used cutting-edge scientific tools and technology to prototype and deliver high-quality work products in a professional, reproducible, timely, and cost-effective manner' 3) drew on a network of professionals from a wide range of disciplines, enhancing staff capacity in the rapid deployment and scaling of innovative solutions; 4) connected with the best minds in conservation science to solve problems in a way that's comprehensive, flexible, and service-oriented; and 5) helped foster the next generation of conservation scientists, practitioners, and leaders through mentorship, inclusion, and respect.Much of the work at CSP is housed among five 'labs.' Our staff work within and across labs to ensure project teams and outcomes are optimized. Our Analytics Lab enhances the way conservation science works and broadens our reach through advancements in technology. Our Changing Landscapes Lab advances conservation and climate adaptation science and planning by accounting for the interacting trajectories of global changes in climates, land use, and biodiversity in socio-ecological systems. Our Threatened and Endangered Species Lab develops and drives the science, research outcomes, and partnerships that accelerate threatened and endangered species conservation and recovery efforts. Our Freshwater Solutions Lab advances freshwater conservation science by providing improved analytical methods and datasets to inform environmental management and policy solutions to the major challenges facing the sustainability of fresh waters. Our Innovation Lab incubates new approaches to solving conservation problems that integrate human ingenuity and the creativity of nature.

Compensation is as filed in Part VII: reportable pay from this organization and from related organizations, other compensation, and hours per week. The total, marked calculated, is our sum of the three dollar columns, with a blank column counted as $0; the form itself has no total. On a Form 990-EZ the columns are Part IV's instead, and on a Form 990-PF Part VIII's — compensation, contributions to benefit plans, and expense account — and the total sums those. A Schedule J breakdown is as filed: base pay, bonus, other, deferred compensation and nontaxable benefits from this organization, with any from related organizations beside each, and the filer's own total. It is shown with the Part VII listing of the same name on the same return. The form gives no key between the two, so that pairing is ours, and is marked matched by us. Earlier years are each on their own filing page.

Nonprofiteer parses Forms 990, 990-EZ and 990-PF, in a window of recent tax years. These returns are recorded from the IRS e-file index, so their figures were extracted by that index rather than read from the return here — treat them as a different source from the filings above, not as more of the same record. A dash means the index carries no figure; Form 990-T listings carry none at all. Showing the 10 most recent; the API carries the rest.

Auto-Revocation List

Not listed. The IRS publishes this list for organizations whose exemption was automatically revoked for failing to file for three consecutive years.

Publication 78

Listed as of 13 October 2026, under deductibility PC.

These are two separate IRS files on two separate schedules, shown as published and not reconciled with each other. Neither is a statement about whether a contribution is deductible today: 19,245 organizations appear in Publication 78 while the IRS's own revocation file lists them as currently revoked, more than half of those revoked before 2019. Absence from Publication 78 is evidence of nothing, and presence is not evidence either. Verify current status with the IRS before relying on it.
