Mission

CAPITAL CITY PRIDE BRINGS TOGETHER MEMBERS OF THE LESBIAN, GAY, BISEXUAL, TRANSGENDER COMMUNITY, THEIR FRIENDS, FAMILY, AND SUPPORTERS. WE DO THIS BY PRODUCING EVENTS THAT INSPIRE, EDUCATE, CONNECT, AND CELEBRATE OUR DIVERSE COMMUNITY AND CULTURE WITH AND FOR THE GREATER DES MOINES METRO.

Activities or mission (Part I)

CREATE EVENTS AND SAFE SPACES FOR THE LGBTQIA+ COMMUNITY

  • PRIDEFEST: THE FLAGSHIP EVENT FOR CAPITAL CITY PRIDE IS A THREE-DAY CELEBRATION AND COMMEMORATION OF THE STRUGGLE FOR LGBT EQUALITY. CAPITAL CITY PRIDE PROVIDES FESTIVITIES AND ENTERTAINMENT FOR MEMBERS OF THE LGBT COMMUNITY AND THEIR ALLY'S. THE THREE-DAY CELEBRATION CULMINATES WITH A GATHERING AND PARADE TO COMMEMORATE THE FIRST PRIDE PARADE HELD A YEAR AFTER THE STONEWALL RIOTS.

    Expenses $614,908 · Revenue $309,245

  • YEAR-ROUND PROGRAMMING: CAPITAL CITY PRIDE OFFERS YEAR-ROUND PROGRAMMING ROOTED IN OUR FIVE CORE PILLARS: COMMUNITY, EDUCATION, HEALTH & WELLNESS, FAMILY, AND CELEBRATION. WHILE OUR ORGANIZATION PREVIOUSLY HOSTED DAILY EVENTS THROUGHOUT PRIDE MONTH, WE HAVE SINCE EVOLVED OUR APPROACH TO BETTER SERVE THE COMMUNITY BY PROVIDING INCLUSIVE AND AFFIRMING EXPERIENCES THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE YEAR. THIS SHIFT ALLOWS US TO ENGAGE A BROADER AUDIENCE IN MEANINGFUL WAYS WHILE REINFORCING OUR BELIEF THAT PRIDE IS NOT JUST A MOMENT, IT'S A MOVEMENT. THROUGH PARTNERSHIPS WITH LOCAL ORGANIZATIONS, BUSINESSES, AND CIVIC GROUPS, OUR EVENTS PROMOTE VISIBILITY, FOSTER CONNECTION, AND AFFIRM THAT CENTRAL IOWA IS A SAFE AND WELCOMING PLACE FOR LGBTQ+ INDIVIDUALS TO LIVE, WORK, AND PLAY.

    Expenses $73,087 · Revenue $53,538

  • SPEAKER SERIES: SPEAKER SERIES IS A YEAR-LONG DISCUSSION SERIES HOSTED BY VARIOUS COMMUNITY PARTNERS THAT PROVIDES A PLATFORM FOR MEMBERS OF THE LGBT COMMUNITY TO SHARE THEIR STORIES WITH OTHER MEMBERS OF THE COMMUNITY. IT IS VERY COMMON FOR LGBT MEMBERS TO LIVE BELIEVING THEY ARE ALONE. SPEAKER SERIES ALLOWS OUT MEMBERS OF THE COMMUNITY TO PROVIDE AFFIRMATION TO THOSE WHO MIGHT FEEL ALONE.

Compensation is as filed in Part VII: reportable pay from this organization and from related organizations, other compensation, and hours per week. The total, marked calculated, is our sum of the three dollar columns, with a blank column counted as $0; the form itself has no total. On a Form 990-EZ the columns are Part IV's instead, and on a Form 990-PF Part VIII's — compensation, contributions to benefit plans, and expense account — and the total sums those. Earlier years are each on their own filing page.

Nonprofiteer parses Forms 990, 990-EZ and 990-PF, in a window of recent tax years. These returns are recorded from the IRS e-file index, so their figures were extracted by that index rather than read from the return here — treat them as a different source from the filings above, not as more of the same record. A dash means the index carries no figure; Form 990-T listings carry none at all.

Grants made

No itemized grants to organizations. Schedule I is filed only by organizations that granted more than $5,000 to a recipient, so most filers have none.

Grants received

The 10 largest by cash amount. The API serves every itemized grant.

Auto-Revocation List

  • Exemption revoked 15 January 2017, reinstated 15 January 2017.

Publication 78

Listed as of 13 October 2026, under deductibility PC.

These are two separate IRS files on two separate schedules, shown as published and not reconciled with each other. Neither is a statement about whether a contribution is deductible today: 19,245 organizations appear in Publication 78 while the IRS's own revocation file lists them as currently revoked, more than half of those revoked before 2019. Absence from Publication 78 is evidence of nothing, and presence is not evidence either. Verify current status with the IRS before relying on it.
