Mission and programs · 2023
Mission
The mission of the Atlanta Humane Society is to improve animal welfare in the southeastern United States by providing quality animal services including preventative initiatives, education, advocacy and adoption of animals into permanent loving homes.
Activities or mission (Part I)
Improving animal welfare by providing innovative, community focused services in the Southeast.
-
ANIMAL AND COMMUNITY SERVICES - Making a true impact requires a holistic approach to caring for pets in shelters and those living in our communities. In FY2024, Atlanta Humane's programs reached 143,407 animals through direct assistance and community support. We provided care for 4,017 animals in our shelter and performed 7,100 spay/neuter surgeries for shelter pets, community cats, and animals from partner organizations. At the same time, we focused on keeping pets with families who love them by distributing over 1 million pounds of pet food across Georgia. Our Animal Protection Unit served as a trusted resource for counties statewide, offering expertise in cruelty investigations and disaster response-empowering officials and strengthening animal welfare systems where they're needed most.
Expenses $10,687,645 · Grants $592,811 · Revenue $799,725
-
REMEDY PET CARE - Atlanta Humane operates Remedy, a nonprofit veterinary practice designed to increase access to affordable, high-quality care for pets and the people who love them. With locations thoughtfully chosen in former veterinary deserts, Remedy provides essential services including preventative care, spay/neuter surgeries, dental procedures, and heartworm treatment. Every service is delivered with transparent pricing and a commitment to keeping pets healthy and at home. In 2024 alone, Remedy served over 10,040 pets and their families, helping reduce barriers to care and improving animal health in the communities we serve.
Expenses $3,800,005 · Grants $1,200,000 · Revenue $1,086,469
-
COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT - In 2024, Atlanta Humane served as a vital resource for community members seeking support, guidance, and care for the pets in their lives. Through our Resource Center, we connected with 25,513 community members, helping them access our free pet food programs and diverting shelter surrenders to our Pets in Crisis Program so families can stay together. These connections also enable us to understand our community's changing needs, and we utilize that data to prioritize our mission work. As a trusted voice in animal welfare, we continued to show up for our community in person through workshops and events as well as through mass media channels like our annual telethon-ensuring pet owners across Georgia have easy access to the resources and support they need.

Compensation is as filed in Part VII: reportable pay from this organization and from related organizations, other compensation, and hours per week. The total, marked calculated, is our sum of the three dollar columns, with a blank column counted as $0; the form itself has no total. On a Form 990-EZ the columns are Part IV's instead, and on a Form 990-PF Part VIII's — compensation, contributions to benefit plans, and expense account — and the total sums those. A Schedule J breakdown is as filed: base pay, bonus, other, deferred compensation and nontaxable benefits from this organization, with any from related organizations beside each, and the filer's own total. It is shown with the Part VII listing of the same name on the same return. The form gives no key between the two, so that pairing is ours, and is marked matched by us.
